A poem entitled, "Amen"

I am free, yet:
I feel bound.
I can't be happy in their chains;
They can't be happy in their chains.
If who I am destroys them,
Let it be so (amen).
If who I am scares them,
Let it be so (amen).
If their happiness, their peace, depends on a lie, well then -
Let them have none.
Let them have my pain.
Let them have my fear.
If something so simple as my happiness
Takes their power away and leaves them in ruin,
Let it be so (amen).
I will not be bound by their chains;
But if there they must remain, well then -
Let it be so (amen).
